Damaged oil seals due to line intrusion.
When seals are ruptured, oil pressure must be maintained to keep sea
water from entering the bearing area. |
Under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, (Imposing heavy
penalties for oil leaks), the U.S. Coast Guard was ordered to advise
vessels that when dealing with oil leaks, "The source of leak must
be immediately secured."
SPURS helps protect against these environmentally hazardous
oil leaks by protecting the running gear from oil seal damage. This
damage is caused in the water by entanglement in the running gear with
long lines, drift nets, trap lines, discarded floating towlines and
hawsers. This type of entanglement damage is the most common cause for
unscheduled haul-outs due to running gear oil seal damage and other
costly problems.
Installing SPURS as your entanglement clearance system will
help eliminate these costly and damaging oil leaks BEFORE they
occur. This is why thousands of U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, commercial
fishing vessels, coastal tugs and supertankers worldwide have elected
to install SPURS as their line entanglement clearance
system. |
